My pre-race ritual for my long distance races includes making sure I have some shot blocks and gu gels on hand. I had a bagel with peanut butter and a banana before my half marathon on Sunday. I also brewed up a cup of coffee with my keurig. I never use it because I only really drink coffee at work and on the weekends am too lazy to make it! I can’t bring myself to get rid of it because it comes in handy on race mornings! Who needs counter space?
I cut them into halves or fourths because they can be a lot to chew. Especially when it is cold out and they harden. I put these in my shorts pockets and beside the fact that they melted a little in the pocket they worked great! I also took one powerbar vanilla gel that they gave away along the race. I will say my stomach was on its best behavior! Maybe it was due to the 9:00am start time?
