Last weekend I ran my 3rd marathon! I still can’t believe I did it but am so happy it is over. I started out the day with some coffee, cheerios, and 1/2 of a chocolate mint clif bar.
My first marathon there was thunderstorms and chilly temps. My second marathon was about 85 degrees. Lucky number 3 brought me perfect a perfect wind free, cool, and cloudy day. You would think I would have nothing to complain about right? Wrong. The hills were intense. I struck up a conversation with a few runners along the way and each one complained of the hills but were in good spirits. As a known hater of hills my legs were not happy. I also had a hard time staying motivated with how spread out the runners were. I also took a wrong turn at one point when I thought I needed to. This was due to my own stupidity and it wasn’t good for my motivation to swear at myself. The course was beautiful. I didn’t break out my ipod until mile 10. When I did, Sara Beth by Rascall Flatts came on the shuffle. It was one of those song where you question, how did this get on here and then I was crying. So there’s that. I am hoping to get post my playlist for the marathon soon. Stay tuned. I”ll be sure to omit Sara Beth.
After mile 20 I noticed the 3:55 pacer was walking. I knew something must be up. I had started to walk through the water stations myself. With about 4 miles to go I was a pretty bummed with the 4:00 pacer passed me. I knew I could stay not too far behind them but wouldn’t be able to pass. My legs and feet were so furious with me. I choked down a PB GU which was very chewy. At mile 25 the crowd was yelling my bib number (never happened) and I was so excited to be done!
We ran through Yahara, Law, Olin, Paunack, Winnequah, and Shluter park. I wouldn’t know one from the other if I were to go to them today. But, I will for the rest of my life announce when I am driving in that area “I ran a marathon here.” It’s fine.
With how small of a race it was I got 2nd in my age group! Holy crap!
After the race we ended up going to my parents lake house to go on our last boat ride of the summer 🙁 I ended up taking two ice baths, one in Lake Wisconsin and the other in the tub.
Do you take ice baths?
